Foxconn International Holdings has resumed production at a factory in Tamil Nadu state in India, less than a week after the facility was shut down because a large number of workers fell ill there.
The factory is back in operation now that the company has received government clearance, a spokesman for Foxconn International said on Friday.
An official of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) said on Friday that the factory had been given permission to resume production, after it was found that the only probable cause for the sickness of the workers was the use of insecticides without proper ventilation at the time.
Foxconn said on Monday that it had suspended operations at its production facility at Kancheepuram district in Tamil Nadu state of south India, after about 250 workers had experienced giddiness and nausea, and were treated in a nearby hospital.
The operations at the production facility were suspended to allow the facility to be checked and cleared by local authorities, it said.
The company said it believed that the incident may have been caused by the routine spraying of pesticide at the production facility. The TNPCB said that its staff had investigated all possible causes for the workers taking ill.
Foxconn International Holdings is a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry, which assembles products for large technology companies such as Apple and Dell. Hon Hai was blamed recently for suicides by some of the workers at a Chinese factory.
The production facility at Kancheepuram makes mechanical parts for mobile phones.
