iBreath offers cheer for festive iPhone drinkers

The iBreath Breathalyzer, an iPod and iPhone accessory, has gone on sale in the UK allowing drinkers to take their own alcohol breath test to check they aren’t over the limit.

The 55 device available from popular UK gadgets sites, also acts as a radio transmitter so you can play tunes from the iPod or iPhone in the car.

However The Sun’s newspaper doctor has warned the device could give iPod or iPhone users false confidence.

Sun GP Dr Carol Cooper said: “This will tell you how much alcohol is on your breath, not how much you are impaired by it. This varies from person to person.”

“You could still be arrested for dangerous or reckless driving even if you’re within the limit.”

Makers claim the device is the season’s “must have” iPod and iPhone accessory with Hollywood's A-listers claimed to be among celebrity users.

Users fold out the blow wand and exhale into it for at least five seconds. Two seconds later the iBreath let's you know if you're within the legal limit to drive.

The device also includes a timer that can be set from one minute up to eight hours in order to remind you when it's time for the next test.

The official iBreath website lists the device as “iPod (and iPhone unofficially)” compatible.
