John Koller, Director, Hardware Marketing at Sony has claimed the launch of Apple's new iPad device will help drive customers, gamers particularly, to the PSP portable gaming device.
"Apple's entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony," Koller told the Wall Street Journal. "When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP."
As Apple is quick to promote, the iPad will run almost 140,000 applications from the iTunes App Store at launch, the majority of which are games.

Sony's views appear to be an echo of another gaming giant in Nintendo.
Last week, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata seemed equally unimpressed by Apple's latest creation. "It was a bigger iPod touch," Iwata said. "There were no surprises for me."
Apple updated its UK website last week to include extensive iPad coverage, including a launch date earlier than many had anticipated.
"Wi-Fi models shipping in late March. 3G models shipping in April. UK pricing to be announced," and "International carrier availability to be announced. 3G data plan may be sold separately," Apple notes.
O2 and Orange are both tipped to be potential iPad partners in the UK according to reports.
