BT flood leaves thousands without Internet, telephone acess

Thousands of web users in north and west London have been left without telephone or internet access after a BT exchange in Paddington flooded.

The London Fire Brigade were called to the flood, which was followed by an electrical fire, early yesterday morning (March 31).

The incident is thought to have had a knock-on effect at 30 exchanges across the country.

TalkTalk, Zen and Vodafone's mobile network are among the operators whose services have reportedly been affected.

"Following major flooding at a BT exchange in the Paddington area, tens of thousands of customers in parts of north and west London may be experiencing a loss of broadband and/or telephone service," BT said.

The ISP also revealed that web users in other parts of the country may also be affected.

"We are currently working on restoring services to customers, however as this is a complex incident we cannot accurately predict when all services will be restored. We will issue further updates as the situation changes," BT added.
