An architectural overhaul of Apple's QuickTime media software, due as part of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, may see once-premium features offered for free.
That's the view of MacRumors, the Mac enthusiast site, which noted that the latest Snow Leopard seeds suggest Apple may be eliminating the QuickTime Pro upgrade.
MacRumors claims that in the current Mac OS X 10.6 seeds all premium features are enabled.
The Buy QuickTime Pro and Registration links meanwhile are missing.
Currently QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X costs 20 as a download from the UK Apple Store.
Upgrading QuickTime, promises Apple, lets users "easily create movies for iPod, capture movies in a single click, share movies via email or .Mac, create stunning H.264 video and much more."
Apple had previously announced that it would be revamping QuickTime in Snow Leopard with the introduction of QuickTime X.
